We have been contemplating moving out of our current school district for a while now. I was skeptical of my son's future school not being keen on having parents in the classroom with the kids. It felt like they were hiding something as well. It turns out everything has come to light about an abusive teacher and parapro in my son's future preschool classroom! Needless to say, this has put the final nail in the coffin for us to move to a new school district. I had already spent the last couple of months researching a new district, and met with the principal about their SXI program. They are fine with my desires to be present with Andy, just kind of checking in, and my daughter will attend school there as well. In our current district, they would both be attending different schools.
Here is the news story from our local news, and a link to a message board talking about it as well.

Take care of your kids, and don't be afraid to question anyone in regards to their care!
I just became a registered nurse, and my ten-year-old son is infant-like, has frequent meltdowns, and cannot stand without support. He is missing a piece of DNA (chromosome 9q22.2) but we are unsure if it made him disabled. He has a diagnosis of severely multiply impaired, paucity of white brain matter, partial agenesis of the corpus callosum, microcephaly, deformities of the ankle and foot, and Autism.
Hi Amy. I am a parent of a student in that classroom, and I would love to talk to you. Please email me at phydo404@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteAmy, it's wonderful how involved you are with your child's education. I know this teacher and I know she was capable of the actions mentioned in the news report. Know that in my position, I am doing all that I can to make sure she doesn't get her job back or sue the state for something ridiculous like defamation of character (unfortunately this is still a possibility)
ReplyDeleteoh wow, that had to be scary. nothing similar to that, but we had a less than great experience during our daughter's first year of kindergarten. we ended up moving her to a new school and having her repeart kindergarten (2012-2013) and we've seen such a huge difference!
